A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after that period of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, comprising in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led some to question if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional title, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent defended four early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a return after a lengthy match.
